A little about myself
I am a multicultural background 20-years-old student, graduating with a B.A. in Psychology and a certificate in Portuguese and Brazilian Culture from Florida International University. I was born in Florence, Italy, when i was young, I moved to Bogotá, Colombia with my mom and that is where I was raised. When I graduated High School, I moved to Miami as an international student and started going to FIU being part of the Global First Year program. There, I met a lot of Brazilians and this caused the urge of learning Portuguese, adding it to the other three languages that I already spoke. I have been working in different departments of the university with the purpose of helping people, that is what I like to do and that is what makes me want to be a global citizen.

CAPS - Victim Empowerment Program
Working as a Peer Educator for the Victim Empowerment Program at CAPS gave me the possibility of giving conferences and talking to students in tabling events racing awareness about sexual assault, healthy relationships, and mental health in general. In this amazing experience I had the possibility to talk to all FIU students and raise awareness, helping them to have those difficult conversations, and letting them know that they are not alone. |
UNICEF - FIU
Working as the Secretary for UNICEF at FIU during the past two years has allowed me to organize many meetings, presentations, volunteering events, and activities with kids that helped me finish realizing why I like global learning opportunities, because they give me the possibility of knowing about others and being able to help them from different levels and perspectives, and this is why UNICEF helped me so much in my Global Learning experience, it thought me that awareness is the first step to change. |
Capstone Project - Portuguese
"To learn a language is to have one more window from which to look at the world." -Proverb- -See the results of my learning Portuguese process- |
The experiences in these three big projects, CAPS, UNICEF, and learning Portuguese, definitely made the difference in my Florida International University path and were my biggest Global Learning projects/activities. However, those were not the only ones, I took many global learning courses during my major and two of those, together with a conference about Peace Corps Volunteering, made a very important part of my experience too...

Human Trafficking
During my third year at Florida International University, I had the opportunity to take one of the most eyeopening classes I took during my whole major, Human Trafficking. I learned about the trafficking problematic around the whole world and how we could try to stay safe and keep people safe from it too, raising awareness and sharing knowledge, this was one of my great Global Learning experiences.

Global Psychology
During my last summer semester, I got to take a class called Global Psychology. This class gave me an amazing perspective regarding the big picture and applications of Psychology. During my prior years of classes, I took a lot of very specific classes, but never got to focus on the global implications and different perspectives of Psychology around the world. This class was another very important step in my Global Learning experience.

Conference
Peace Corps Volunteer
During my last months of my undergraduate school program, I had the amazing opportunity of attending a conference about Peace Corps Volunteer experiences of veterans and it was incredible to see how each one of them had experiences in a different culture and was amazing to see how many different cultures there are and how many different languages exist, but how, in the end, we all have the same meaning of family and love.
